In the early 1950’s, my mom, two brothers and my stepfather lived in a trailer park about a mile or so from Mount Hope United Methodist Church, located on the top of a long, tall hill in Aston Pa.
Since my stepfather had to work every day including Sunday, my mom would walk to church with my brothers and, in my young years, pushing me in a stroller up the hill. She faithfully made sure we got to Sunday School and church on time, dressed in suits and ties. Mom always wore a hat covering her head showing obedience and reverence. We were showing our respect to God by presenting ourselves in our very best.
Mount Hope was filled with Godly men and women who studied and followed sound Bible doctrine as tought by a wonderful named Reverend Worth.
We continued attending Mount Hope UME church, after my parents were able to purchase a house in the same town. My brothers and I were picked up every Sunday morning by one of the many full sized Sunday School buses that crisscrossed the community picking up lots of children.
As a result of learning what Jesus Christ did for us, “For God so loved the world, he sent his one and only Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. John 3:16. Over several years, one by one, my brothers and I each asked Jesus into our lives and for Him to be our Lord and Savior. My born again date is December 26, 1962, I still have the Bible Mr Norris gave me on that day with the date written in the front. It’s pretty worn, mostly from being carried and probably not due to being intensely studied in those days.
My family moved from the town of Aston to a neighboring town in 1968 and began worshiping at a local Baptist Church.
I thank God for Mount Hope UME and the impact those Godly followers of Jesus Christ had on my family and me throughout our years.
Every now and then I’d meet someone who was my mom’s age and attended Mount Hope church in those days, and they remember my mom and us brothers by saying “ Oh yes, I remember how your mom would push that baby stroller up that long hill with your brothers in tow every Sunday to make sure you were in church”.
What a testimony mom had as she taught us how important it is to keep our commitment and thankfulness to our Heavenly Father.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Love in Christ who saves us.
Great story of a Mom who made church and Jesus a priority. Her dedication and commitment gave you the foundation to prepare for life and follow Christ. As you fought your life battles, it’s obvious to see that it was the devotion of a Mom who helped prepare you and your siblings! on this Mothers Day, Honor and “thank you” to your Mom and the many other Moms who introduced us to Christ! Thank you Mom!
